"Life's simple pleasures for you and me are found far and wide across land and sea . . . " This book was inspired by my niece, Jane. When she was a small child she would find such joy in the simplest things . . . the morning sunshine or a little bird sitting on the fence. These things would bring a beaming smile to her face!
My second inspiration was in meeting Wyland, world famous marine life artist and environmentalist. From this meeting I decided to include a message about protecting the environment in my book. Wyland has dedicated his life to promoting the protection of our oceans and of its marine life.
I went to San Francisco to meet with Wyland while he was on his "west coast tour" to paint life sized murals of whales. I wanted him to be involved somehow with my Simple Pleasures book. He suggested that I recreate one of his whaling walls in my book! I was thrilled that he was interested in being involved! We agreed on the Wildwood, NJ wall. This is where we first met and fittingly this wall was dedicated "to the children" for whom he entrusts the future protection of our earth and all its living creatures.
