The country cooking style of our cookbook was praised in the beautiful reviews below. Its comfort food recipes are sure to delight everyone who tries them!
Charming is a modest word to use for this tastefully produced Grandmother's Cookbook of, yes, grandmother's recipes. There are lovely watercolors here of flowers, and the entire text is handwritten in handsome calligraphy.
From Brandied Peaches to "Potatoe Balls" to Feather Beds, we glide through the life and times and tastes of Elizabeth Rose von Hohen. Memories of school, her family crest - "My father-in-law, Freidrich von Hohen, brought it with him from the old country." Hungarian Goulash prepared simply and deliciously. Aunt Mary's Salad Dressing. Creamed Spinach. Recipes clearly spelled out. Ingredients easy to get. Instructions a treat to follow.
Grandmother may be what this book's about, but it was granddaughter Carrie Gamble who did the calligraphy, and the watercolors. She also edited and published this volume, she chose the attractive weave of the paper and she is quite simply the very soul of this book.
Together, grandmother and granddaughter have created the sort of book you handle with just that special sort of love.
What Carrie couldn't say, Elizabeth filled out. And what Elizabeth couldn't do, Carrie brought to creation.

Getting Lost In Coconut Vanities
"The Best at Home"
Last fall I received a review copy of Grandmother's Cookbook that really looked interesting. In fact, it was a charming book that brought back fond memories - not of my grandmothers but of my mother (Granny) baking and cooking down home meals for my father. As one who enjoys picking what some folks might call weeds, I also liked the sketches of wildflowers.
I went online to www.grandmotherscookbook.com and found some recipes that looked tasty. When my friend June called to invite me to dinner, allegedly to help eat her abundance of country ribs, I offered to bring dessert. I was a bit leery of the recipe for coconut vanities, especially when I saw the meringue "icing." However, this treat is delicious and so light. Everyone raved about the coconut vanities and June asked for the recipe - definitely a good sign!
This cookbook would make an excellent gift for mothers, grandmothers, aunts and sisters - oh, just about anyone!
