Originally published in 1990, Grandmother's Cookbook was created by Elizabeth and I, (her granddaughter) Carrie J. Gamble, to preserve the treasured recipes she had made over the years. Her hope is that "all of these special old fashioned recipes will not become a lost art."
There are chapters on: Soups, Breads, Dumplings & Noodles, Appetizers & Salads, Meats & Vegetables, Desserts and Christmas Specialties. Your family will love these delicious recipes! You will be surprised how easy they are using basic ingredients.

The most recent edition published in 2008 includes "A Family Love Letter" new chapter. It is a reprint of a feature article originally published in Country Home magazine. We decided including this article would make our cookbook complete. It tells the story of the creation of Grandmother's Cookbook. It details Elizabeth's fascinating life and love of family, cooking and nature. About two dozen vintage family photos were reproduced in this chapter including one of infant Elizaberth Rose shortly afte her birth on April 1, 1909. We received thousands of letters in response to this article. The letters shared a common theme: "After reading this article, I just KNEW I had to have a copy of this cookbook!" Please enjoy the entire chapter and sample recipes by clicking the above link.
"This is truly an unusual beast: it successfully combines the style of
a treasured heirloom project with the usability and quality of a
highly marketable product. This is a difficult task to accomplish!
The little stories intertwined throughout the recipes are delightful to
read and truly transport you back in time."
HEATHER GROVE, THE BURNING VOID
JANUARY 2, 2007
The country cooking within the pages of Grandmother's Cookbook reflects Elizabeth's family heritage. There are recipes from her German-Hungarian mother, Anna Griffaton, who brought them over from the old country. Her Mother's Pot Roast, Hungarian Goulash and Bread Dumplings have been made hundreds of times. How can you forget those tried and true family treasures? Click here to order your copy of Grandmother's Cookbook and enjoy all of our family favorites!
As a pastry chef in Vienna, Elizabeth's Aunt Rose passed down several gourmet dessert recipes such as Bohemian Nut Slices and Linzer Torte. They are so beautiful and look like they should be pictured in a magazine!
At fifteen Elizabeth left her beloved family to live and work at a doctor's residence in Philadelphia. It was here where her style of cooking began to blossom. She mastered gourmet recipes as taught by her boss, Mrs. Strauss. She learned how to entertain with style and grace as Dr. and Mrs. Strauss hosted lavish dinner parties. Elizabeth loved telling stories of working for the Strauss family!
All of her experiences fostered a love of cooking in Elizabeth. Her family enjoyed decades of feasts from her vast repertoire of recipes. Who could forget her Feather Bed Rolls . . . so soft and slightly sweet? And mouthwatering desserts like Butterscotch Pie, Brandied Peaches or Pull Apart Cake. Do you remember eating dessert no matter how full you were from dinner?
How fascinating it was to watch Elizabeth make her homemade noodles - stretching the dough over the edge of the table to just the right thickness. After it dried she'd layer the dough and precisely cut the strips. There truly was an "art" to it which only "practiced hands" could execute. The comfort foods really are the best! Isn't it wonderful to have the memories of your grandmother in her kitchen?
Dinner at grandmom's was always a treat. I feel very lucky to have experienced it for so many years as Elizabeth cooked well into her nineties. There was a "magic" to those times which can never be duplicated. "Over the river and through the woods . . ." are memories I treasure.
Our heirloom cookbook, also referred to as a family history cookbook, is filled with nostalgia. In the end Grandmother's Cookbook not only preserves Elizabeth's recipes, but captures a slice of her family's life and the love they shared. Click on the above link for more details.
Why not grab a copy of the famous Grandmother's Cookbook right now? You won't find a better way to grow cherished memories in the minds of the little ones who visit your home. Your nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will gather in your kitchen like bees to a honeycomb and they won't even know why. ;-)
Happy Cooking!

"I love Grandmother's Cookbook, and I enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy cooking from it. The wonderful stories throughout the book remind me of my own grandmother, and her love of family and food. This cookbook has everything from old-fashioned recipes like Hungarian Plum Dumplings, Floating Islands and Cherry Rolly Polly, to comfort foods like Macaroni and Cheese, Corn Chowder and Buttermilk Biscuits. Aunt Mary's Salad Dressing was so good that my husband drank it from his salad bowl! We took a picture of the Cherry Custard Pie because it was so impressively beautiful, and the taste was award winning! Everything in Grandmother's Cookbook is delicious and tastes like Grandmother made it herself!"
