Cookbook Author
Those who have been lucky enough to sample Elizabeth's cooking whether it be soup, homemade dumplings, a roasted chicken, stewed peaches or pears or freshly baked yeast cakes, are definitely lucky. Her flair for cooking and baking has always resulted in “rave reviews” from family and friends. Elizabeth could be considered an expert in the culinary field. It would not be because she graduated from culinary school or owned a fancy restaurant.
Her “expertise” came from years of experience and
a genuine passion for cooking.

Elizabeth's initial fascination for cooking came when she first attended school in a one room schoolhouse in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. As a sheltered farm girl she spoke only in German and had to learn English fast if she wanted to learn and keep up with her classmates! She saw all of the wonderful things her girlfriends brought in their lunches . . . and learned much more than reading, writing and 'rithmatic
in those early days. Elizabeth would bring the recipes home and together she and her mother would eagerly try their hand at them. They were so proud of their first pie ~ Butterscotch! Her mother baked her first layer cake by using a bread pan and slicing the layers in half. Elizabeth was bursting with pride as she presented their cake at school for a picnic. Thus began a lifelong love of cooking.

Elizabeth enjoyed a long lifetime of entertaining her family and friends with her delcious country homestyle recipes. What is amazing about the old time cooks is they do everything with ease! A full course meal for thirty was no big deal to her at all! Not only was the food outstanding, but it was always presented and served very elegantly. She was, by all accounts, a very elegant lady.

Although she was a very humble person, Elizabeth was so proud of
Grandmother's Cookbook. She was very pleased to know her recipes would be passed down to future generations. In the weeks that preceded her death in May 2006 at the age of 97, Carrie told her grandmother of her plans to launch www.grandmotherscookbook.com. In silence Elizabeth just looked into Carrie's eyes and raised her hand with her fingers crossed.
Carrie J. Gamble
Publisher, Calligrapher, Artist
Carrie was determined to get all of her grandmother's best recipes in writing. It was a fun and interesting experience which took about three years. This collaboration between grandmother and granddaughter was the best experience of Carrie's life! Together they came up with all of the ideas which make their publication so unique and appealing. Upon the original publication of Grandmother's Cookbook in 1990, Carrie dove into the publishing field learning everything she could along the way.

Her ongoing incentive with marketing
Grandmother's Cookbook is to remind people of the importance of family and of appreciating the simple things in life. Her grandmother, Elizabeth, set such a great example as a person who lived a relatively humble life, but was so rich in spirit because of the joy she felt in doing for others. Her hope is that those who read and use the recipes from Grandmother's Cookbook will find the same joy within themselves.

Carrie's grandmother and great-grandmother swore by one brand of flour ~ Ceresota & Heckers. A few years back she decided to contact them to let them know. What eventually transpired was a deal to publish an offer for
Grandmother's Cookbook on over one million flour bags!

Carrie has had the unique opportunity of traveling throughout the country while promoting this publication. Her book tours have included book signings, radio, newspaper and television interviews.  She was interviewed on Martha Stewart's “Everyday Food” radio program on Sirius Radio in New York City. Her publication has been reviewed by the Associated Press, Country Home magazine, The New York Daily News, Lady's Circle Magazine and The Monterey County Herald. The Associated Press review was the first one ever written about
Grandmother's Cookbook. As a result of this article, 2,000 cookbooks were sold within three months! Carrie has enjoyed these experiences as they have allowed her to meet many wonderful and interesting people in the culinary, media and publishing fields.

Carrie has also published "Simple Pleasures," a book about life's greatest gift ~ nature! Please take a look at our Simple Pleasures page for photos and more details.
